(S/E) Hasty Bank Car Park.
(1) 200 meters from the car park, turn left off the road onto the Cleveland way, signposted.
(2) Climb up the stone laid footpath to pass through a gate onto more even ground follow directly ahead on the well defined path to cross just under the summit of round hill, some 400m passed round hill a moorland road is reached on your left, take this. Follow the moorland road to reach 5 crossroads point.
(3) From 5 crossroads point, take the track to your right walking down to Badgers Gill, Badgers stone is on your left as you cross the concrete bridge over the gill, climb out continuing on the same wide track, keeping the forest directly to your left, staying on the ridge continue to Stump Cross.
(4) At stump cross, another moorland track comes into your right hand side, take this and follow it to the beck crossing at Tripsdale, the route passes two shooting lodgers on your left hand side near each other, the first one is open and can offer shelter for a break if required, the track drops steeply and zigzags into Tripsdale.
(5) Crossing the steam climb steeply out of Tripsdale, keeping to the moorland track on reaching the crest observe a signpost to your right, the footpath downhill to your left leads into William beck, though you continue directly ahead to skirt above East bank Plantation.
(6) As you reach the end of East Bank Plantation the footpath leaves the moorland path, hugging to the edge of the hillside, crossing the path from Weighill Plantation, following wall ahead, leaving the wall when it drops into the valley contour around to the right on a well defined path dropping down to cross a concrete bridge.
(7) From the Concrete Bridge follow the path climbing out of the valley to bring you out onto your original track at a gate leading to the stone steps, which are followed back to the car park.
(8) Turn left to rejoin Cleveland way at gate above stone steps.
