Start : At Hartlepool Road Car Park, Wynyard Village just off the A689. (Grid ref. NZ 404 284)
(S) Exit the car park and turn left. You will see the cycle path sign pointing north towards Station Town and Sunderland. Keep left taking the gravel path Northwards.
(1) Cross the track running past Green Lane Cottages and continue Northwards.
(2) When you reach a track junction, continue straight ahead. You may glimpse Embleton Old Hall to your right and wind turbines to your left.
(3) You will cross a bridge over Hurworth Burn Road. There is a picnic area and parking here. Continue walking Northwards.
Alternative Route: The walk can be extended by walking around Hurworth Burn Reservoir. Just before the bridge you will see a footpath to your left which takes you down to Hurworth Burn Road. When you reach the road, turn left and walk along the road with great care. Cross the River Skerne, you will see this flow into the reservoir on your right. When you reach the bend in the road, take the track to your left Northwards, this follows the west bank of the reservoir. At the end of the track, take the path North-West which crosses the reservoir dam. The path then turns right along the northern edge of the reservoir. It then turns north running parallel with the cycle path until it rejoins a little further along.
(4) As you go under the road bridge, look to your right, you can often see water voles swimming in the beck here.
(5) On reaching the B1280, cross the road and follow the cycle path on the otherside of the road. There are boulders here. At the end of the short stretch of path you will emerge on Bridge Terrace in Station Town (E).
