If you are hiking the trail individually as a circular route and not in conjunction with the Juniper Trail from Schmidmühlen via Hohenburg, you can park your car either at the bottom of the village on the left in front of the market square in Brauhausstraße and hike up the hill through the village. Alternatively, you can park your car a little further up the hill on Klosterbergstraße on the right.
(S/E) If you start on Brauhausstraße, first turn left onto the bridge over the Lauterach to the market square.
(1) Keep right past the old town hall, up the fairly steep road and turn right at the first fork onto Klosterbergstraße.
(2) After a short distance, you will see the monastery castle with the monastery church on your right. It is worth making a short detour to visit it. The mummy of Ludwig of Bavaria's daughter, who sadly died during a visit, lies in a shrine in the church. Continue uphill along Klosterbergstraße. Pass Hochholzstraße on your left.
(3) About 200 metres uphill, you will see the Berghof on the left-hand side of the road. Directly behind the house, turn left and walk across the car park, past a hedge and along the house to the dry meadow. Here, you will find yourself walking through beautiful juniper heathland again.
(4) After a few metres, we reach a bench under a tree. From here, we have a wonderful view of Kastl and the monastery castle. The path now descends slightly down the slope into the Hochholz, a wooded area on the hilltop. This is also where the forest nature trail begins, with information boards pointing out the native trees and animal species. If you wish, you can follow the nature trail a short distance into the forest on the left.
The Wacholderwanderweg trail continues straight ahead. After a few minutes, we leave the forest and follow the Wacholderweg trail towards Galgenberg. From a bench, we can enjoy the magnificent view of the Kalvarienberg, the Mittersberg radar station and the tower of the pilgrimage church in Trautmannshofen. We continue westwards through the wondrous world of the juniper heath.
(5) A little further on at the crossroads, keep right along the meadow until you reach the gravel path, which meets a few other paths at a farmstead with several buildings. Here, keep right and then immediately left, passing a shed on the right and continuing south on the dirt track.
(3) After about 600 metres, we arrive back at the Berghof.
(S/E) Here, turn right onto Klosterbergstraße and follow it downhill back to the car park.
