Description of the walk

Start : Shirley Arms Hotel/Courthouse Square (A81 W677) Grid ref. SA 906 638

(S/E) The yellow trail starts at the Shirley Arms Hotel/Courthouse Square. Continue up Main Street (R927) past St. Finbarr's Church and the St. Louis Convent.

(1) Walk down to the junction and turn left into Ardee Road.

(2) Take the next left (at the end of the shops) into Riverside Road (L4932).

(3) Exit the avenue onto the busy Oriel Road (R927) and turn left. Follow Dundalk Road, go straight at the roundabout. Keep going ahead. At the intersection with R179, go straight into O'Neill Street. At the T-junction, go right into Main Street and return to the hotel.(S/E)

This is the 4th section of the Ring of Gullion Way. It takes you from Forkill to Slieve Gullion Courtyard Centre. A steep climb now takes you up the side of the highest mountain in County Armagh. The Slieve Gullion ring dyke has long been celebrated by geologists, and this two-day walking route allows you to explore the area’s unique natural history by foot. The route follows a mixture of footpaths and country lanes as it makes its way around the ring, passing numerous historical sites along the way.
