The Méjean cliff path

Perhaps the most beautiful walk along the Causse Méjean, which traditionally starts out from Le Rozier.
Here, by starting on the cliff top, there is less vertical drop, as you stay between 870 and 720m the whole way.
As well as breath-taking scenery, you can see vultures circling above you and even below you on the cliffs!

Description of the walk

It's a lovely walk, as bucolic as you could wish for in May, and it's not difficult at all! Its difficult classification is surprising. Only 550m of ascent. And although you have to use your hands 2 or 3 times, it's never technically difficult or dangerous. We completed it in 4? hours on a leisurely walk, including the lunch break and the many photo stops! Those prone to vertigo can take advantage of the very wide paths, so they can stay well away from precipices and their view. What's more, most of the time there's so much vegetation that there's no sense of emptiness. What I liked best: the vases de chine and vases de sèvres, fabulous and impressive geological formations, as well as the many vultures that flew above us. We counted 21 of them! Our only regret was that we didn't get to see them up close. To make things even more difficult, you should know (as we didn't) that there are many ladders that allow you to climb up many of the rocks. In my opinion, this is indeed impressive and not recommended for those prone to vertigo. If you're a thrill-seeker, you should find out more about these famous ladders. We ended up having a drink at the Brasserie du Rozier. What a day!

We hiked in the opposite direction, so we had a great view at the start at the edge of the cliffs, but halfway along we found ourselves in the undergrowth to finish the loop.

Overestimated ascent + possibility of parking higher up than the car park mentioned.

We recommend this walk without hesitation!

Very nice walk with magnificent views, the rocks are superb. The difference in altitude is overestimated (count more like 700m maximum). It is possible to park higher up than the car park mentioned and thus avoid the ascent on tarmac.

We did this walk two years ago without any problems, starting from Cassagne. This year, still starting from Cassagne, we didn't find the China and Sèvres vases and preferred to turn back, as we didn't want to go down to Le Rozier. Yours sincerely

Magnificent, very aerial hike! Verticality +++
I think it's far too dangerous with children:(!)!
Completed in 4? hours with a diversion to the Capluc crag and a photo break, in a group of 4 athletes.
Be careful on the last part at cliff level to follow the markings (which are very well indicated throughout) and not the GPS route (route error) and no problem.
Leaving the village at 7.45am, turn left at the start and there's a path that avoids the road, which is much better and leads to the same place! We quickly warmed up with a direct D+. If you set off early, there's hardly anyone along the whole route, and the first hikers you meet arrive later when it's hot!
One of the most beautiful hikes I've ever done. Thank you Visorando!

A beautiful hike with impressive and magnificent views.
We had a bit of trouble at the start finding the stairs, which aren't really stairs at all. In fact, there's a path in the bend that goes up to the right.
For me, even though I'm prone to vertigo, this hike was completely accessible (the vegetation reduces the impression of emptiness). Good shoes are recommended though! A hike worth doing!

A very fine hike, especially the more technical second part where there are some remarkable viewpoints with vultures not far away. The Pas du loup pass and the finish on the rocks of the China and Sèvres vases are exceptional. It was very hot in August and that was a difficulty on the climb.

Superb hike with a superb panoramic view of both sides of the cornice with a pleasant passage through the forest between the 2 cornices. The climb is very steep. On the other hand, the second part is much more technical, so don't be afraid of heights. The concrete part of the descent is very unpleasant. I'd definitely recommend this hike.

A beautiful hike. Some sections are a little vertiginous: for experienced hikers only.
Not recommended for people prone to vertigo or for young children.
Not recommended in the event of rain
Magnificent views
Vultures flying very close...
The announced altitude difference (1038 m) seems a little excessive (700 m max)
ATTENTION
Shortly after the Balcony of Vertigo (between Points 7 and 8), you lose track of the application with an audible alarm indicating that you have deviated from the track. Ignore this alarm and continue to follow the GR de pays trail (two-coloured Red-Yellow markings), otherwise you will find yourself too close to the cliff -> danger.
We pick up the track again after the Pas du Loup.

A sublime hike that is a must if you get the chance. I was a bit apprehensive about the ledge path, but it's quite wide and the short descent into the rocks isn't too steep... the path is well signposted. A magnificent panorama, even if there aren't many vultures. A superb day
