A short, easy walk for a family outing. In good weather you can see the parachutists jump over the Pujaut aerodrome.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park along a road parallel to the D177.

(S/E) Cross the 177 secondary road by the speed limit signs and take the small path opposite until your reach a stony path. Turn right and follow the path up to a crossroads.

(1) Continue opposite, to the north, remaining on the right-most path. After a little climb, you get to the first viewing point over the village of Pujaut. Go back down the path that goes off to the right and stay close to the cliff. Stop at the highest points for a view over the plain and the aerodrome.

(2) Warning! There are lots of paths that go off in all directions. Walk south-southwest, then south remaining on the right-most path that takes you close to the cliff.

(3) Cross the GR42 (on the way back you'll return up to this point) and continue southwest, still close to the cliff. Keep going until you reach a large crossroads.

(4) Take the first path on the right, staying close to the cliff. Be careful no to take any of the small paths that lead you to the road below. Use the electric pylon to the southwest as reference point, and which stands out on the hill. This is the arrival point of the first section.
At the foot of the pylon, take in the view, you'll see the cooperative "La Chartreuse", and the villages of Tavel, Rochefort du Gard etc.

(5) For the way back, continue on the path along a fence, turn left to walk back up and pass under the electric power line. After a short descent at the first intersection, take the path to the left. About 100/150 metres northeast you'll see a little plateau that you need to get to.

(6) At this point, take the left-hand path that will lead you back to the route you came on. Continue on the same path until the GR42 crossroads.

(3) Take the GR42 to the right (red and white markings). At the crossroads, turn left onto a trail. Then ignore the track to the right, going north-northeast until you reach the D177. Cross the secondary road at the pedestrian crossing and you'll find your vehicle in the car park to your left.

Practical information

Be careful, in wet weather the little path by the cliff is very slippery.

Variant at point (3) : go back along the outward route and enjoy the view over the plain again, and you might also be able to see the parachutists training.

In the nearby area

Viewing point over the Pujaut plain and the aerodrome, which is a favourite among parachutists.

There are lots of paths and a risk of getting lost. But with the Visorando application on your mobile phone and the IGN map downloaded, it's easy to follow the route.
Beautiful views over the Pujaut plain.
Beware of those who are afraid of heights, as the path is very close to the cliffs at times.

Few forecasts, no landmarks; no signposts on the route; interesting because of the beautiful panorama and the wild nature of the area.

Too many paths cross each other, with the risk of making a mistake every 20m. Fortunately, the help of visiorando in gps removed any ambiguity and was a great help. I highly recommend this application in conjunction with the IGN map.

Thank you for this nice route, with some very beautiful viewpoints all along the way on the outward journey.
I can confirm what other hikers have said: it's impossible to find your way back without a GPS! Too many paths going off in all directions on the plateau. I couldn't find the GR42 :-)

Hello,
Perhaps the description could be a bit more detailed, with a few more intermediate points? As there are no signposts, a few landmarks or distances would be welcome to help you get your bearings.
As I said, however, I really enjoyed this walk.

A pleasant walk with beautiful views over the plain and the Ventoux. There are lots of paths that often join up, which makes it easier to find your way around.
The signs are easy to follow up to point 4, but 5 and 6 were more complicated and I don't think I followed all the signs. Finally, I couldn't find the GR either way, and none of the walkers I met were able to point it out to me! A few more signs would be welcome.
Nevertheless, I recommend this walk, which makes the most of a sunny day in winter.

We discovered these cliffs that we hadn't seen before. It's a shame that the road below is so busy. The description as far as the pylon is good. Once under the pylon, we were able to watch the gliders take off with the help of a winch, as well as the flight of many parachutists. The return journey was a little harder to follow: too many paths in all directions.

Very nice walk, on the side of a cliff at times with a magnificent panorama. On the other hand, there were a lot of path departures, so we often retraced our steps, but we soon noticed.
I would recommend

In fact, I should have said follow the directions on the map. Following the cliff is OK, but it's hard to find it at times. Keeping the pylon in sight is complicated by the vegetation. Lots of crossings and few arrows or markers to indicate the right direction. At some crossroads we had to use the GPS to continue. Not many deviations from the route.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to give us your opinion.

The term "map route" refers to the conformity of the route as it appears on the map with the reality on the ground.

Did you follow the route with a GPS or GPS application?
Did you deviate from the route?

Hard to trust the map. There are far too many routes to find the right one. You need a GPS to find your way.

Our group had a great time walking along the edge of the cliffs!
To avoid crossing the busy road, we parked at point 1.
which made no difference to the route.
To make things even more interesting, after point 4 we took the path down to the Pujaut plain
then left onto the path that leads back up to point 134 (careful! the climb is for good walkers only).
There are lots of paths on the plateau, but it's finding the right one that's so much fun!
Happy end of year to you all!
Jean-Pierre
