This is a challenging hike: 800 m of elevation gain and some giant steps to climb, but it's well worth the effort. Park at the car park on the edge of the M62.
(S/E) Leave the car park at the southern corner and head along Tafelberg Road. Just before it turns left, cross the road, taking care, towards the start of the steps.
(1) Take two small stairways, passing through the forest at the beginning. Continue until you reach a fork in the road.
(2) Cross it and take the path opposite. After about 100 metres, take a left turn and continue south-east. After a few hairpin bends, you will reach the Kloof Corner viewpoint.
(3) Continue on the left, almost on a contour line along the mountainside. After about 500 metres, pass under the cable car.
(4) Continue in the same direction until you reach a fork.
(5) Turn right and tackle the steep climb leading to Fountain Peak, which you will reach after numerous tight hairpin bends.
(6) Head right to reach the plateau and the cable car station. Depending on the weather, you can cool off or warm up at the restaurant opposite the cable car station.
(7) Retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).
