Lion's Head

Welcome to Cape Town. There are two marked hikes in this city: Table Mountain and Lion's Head. The starting point for both hikes is the same. Table Mountain is much longer and steeper than Lion's Head.

Description of the walk

To begin with, I have rated the hike as difficult, as it ends with ladders and handrails. I have seen children aged around ten years old manage it without any problems, and adults who were scared of heights. It's up to you.

((S/E) Start by going up the road, heading north, until you reach the start of the path that runs alongside it, directly on your left.

(1) Follow this path to the next junction.

(2) Turn left onto the only path that will lead to Lion's Head.

(3) At this point, you can take a shortcut to the right via the ladders or continue straight ahead to the stairs (your choice), which are not easier to climb. Reach the summit of Lion's Head: beautiful view if there are no clouds.

(3) Descend via the same route in reverse to return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

If you come to the car park for the cable car that goes up Table Mountain, you will have to turn back after Lion's Head.
However, if you came on foot, you can finish your hike by descending the other side of Lion's Head to Signal Hill and then return to the city centre.
