Park in the car park of the Fronsadais Tourist Office.
(S/E) Walk alongside the vineyard. Cross the main road (watch out for traffic) and continue along the limestone path, then turn right onto the tarmac road.
You will see a footbath on your left and Château l’Escarderie-vin (AOC Fronsac – organic).
(1) At the green signpost, turn left onto “l’Allée de l’Escarderie” and continue along the grassy path between the two buildings.
Go under the iron footbridge and continue straight up towards the woods.
(2) At the junction, follow the sign for “Tour du Pays Fronsadais” on the right and continue along the path uphill, then onto the tarmac road.
(3) At the junction, turn left onto the road.
At the signpost, turn right towards “Tour du Pays Fronsadais” through the vineyards.
(4) At the signpost, turn right towards “BL de Saint-Aignan”.
Cross the road and continue through the vineyards. At the end, take the tarmac road on the right.
(5) At the junction in the hamlet of Fontaine, turn left.
At the next junction, continue along the road towards the Romanesque church of Saint-Aignan.
Note the magnificent cemetery cross.
(6) Continue and at Château Tasta, turn right and follow “BL de Saint-Aignan”, continuing along the grassy path. Continue uphill through the woods then follow the vineyards
(7) At the signpost, follow “BL de Saint-Aignan” to the left towards the large oak tree, passing under a power line.
(If you turn right towards Château Haut Mazeris, you can continue on the Fronsac circular route.)
(8) Cross the D246 road (watch out for traffic), leave Château La Valade on your right and continue straight on towards the water tower.
(9) At the junction with the road, stay on the right-hand verge and follow the vineyard plot, then continue along the road to the water tower.
(10) After the water tower, turn left onto the path and continue through the vineyards. Not far on, you will see, on your right, vineyard huts and the towers of the two windmills at Château Plain Point.
Cross the Château Plain Point road (on your right) and continue straight on towards “BL de Saint-Aignan”
(11) Cross the D246 and continue through the vineyards.
(4) Follow the route you took on the way there and, at the junction with the road, turn left onto the “Route des champignonnières”.
(3) Between the two farm buildings, turn right onto “Chemin de Cousin”.
(2) Follow the signs for “Maison du Pays Fronsadais”.
(1) At the junction with the road, turn right. Continue straight on after the STOP sign.
Immediately turn left onto “Chemin des vignes”.
Cross the main road (watch out for traffic) and head to the car park along the vineyards (S/E).
Nothing much to see, and a few long climbs – especially at the start – which are best suited to those with strong calves, but the walk is still pleasant
