On the path to Vergy and the Grosne spring from Gouville

A circular route around Gouville Castle takes you along the Vergy path, where you can admire the Combe des Grands Vaux, before returning via a good footpath to the Crosne spring, which flows from a small cliff.

Description of the walk

Parking available along the walls of Gouville Castle.

(S/E) From the gate of Gouville Castle, go up the road to the edge of the woods.

(1) Then turn left onto Chemin de Vergy, a small dirt track that runs alongside the walls of Gouville for a long way. Continue along this track until you reach the D108.

(2) Cross it carefully and take the wide white path opposite. Continue up Mont Moyen, with beautiful views on the right over Corcelles and Mont Afrique. At a clearly marked intersection, turn left onto the main path, which passes in front of a fenced property. Continue through the forest until you come out above Combe Grands Vaux.

(3) Turn left, following the yellow markings on the Grand Dijon trail. Continue along this dirt track, from where you can see the valley where the main roads meet on the right. Continue to a barrier marking the arrival on the D108.

(4). Cross it carefully and go to the right to a small clearing. Then take the right path, which turns left a little further on (yellow markings for the Batier trail), and cross a deciduous forest. Stay on the yellow markings when the path begins to descend slightly to go around a small valley, with pretty rocks at the end, and follow the other side, climbing slightly. A little further on, take a look at the pretty balcony overlooking the Combe du Pré, then return to the small path.

(5) The Source de Crosne spring gushes out on the left, halfway up a small cliff, and its waters can cross the path before rushing down towards the valley. Carefully descend this slightly steep path, which can be slippery, to reach the thalweg of the Combe du Pré. Climb up on the left, through rocks and moss-covered trees, until you reach the walls of Gouville. Finish the climb, which is not too difficult, to the plateau.

(6) At the junction, turn left (signposted) and continue to a large white path.

(7) Turn left to return to the Gouville gate (S/E).
