Skuleberget via Grottstigen: ascent of the Haute Côte

This route offers one of the most beautiful ways to explore Skuleberget: a short but intense climb via the Grottstigen, right up close to the cliffs and rocks, followed by a gentler, panoramic descent via the Höga Kusten Stigen. With its caves, steep sections, summit overlooking the Baltic Sea and visible traces of post-glacial rebound, this hike encapsulates all the scenic power of the Höga Kusten.

Notes

(S/E) → (2) Grottstigen is the most adventurous section of the hike. Short but very steep, this path climbs up the rocky slope of Skuleberget, alternating between boulders, steps and steep sections. It requires good footwear and some confidence on steep terrain.

(2) → (5) The descent over the rocky slabs at the end of the hike is likely to be very slippery in wet weather.

Worth a visit

(S/E) About a hundred metres from the car park, the Naturum Höga Kusten helps you understand why the High Coast is a unique landscape, shaped by the land rising since the end of the last ice age.

(4) At an altitude of 286 m, the Högsta kustlinjen on Skuleberget marks the highest known ancient shoreline in the world.
