Assit Mill Trail

This trail refers to the water mill built in the Middle Ages on the banks of the Vienne. You will follow the Vienne for much of the route. This gives you plenty of time to fully appreciate this river! If you see tourists in canoes or kayaks, don't be surprised! The Vienne is used for water sports.

Description of the walk

Park on Chemin des Bruyères, near the Moulin d'Assit.
Yellow markings

(S/E) With your back to the Vienne, turn left onto the road until you reach a path on the left.

(1) Take a sharp left turn onto this path. Follow it, first approaching the river, then moving away from it to the right. Join a small tarmac road.

(2) Turn right and continue to the D16.

(3) Cross it carefully and turn right again to follow this road to a place called Le Bois Pelé.

(4) Take the path on the left to pass in front of the farm. Reach the Grand Champ crossroads.

(5) Continue straight ahead. Ignore the access to the quarry and continue straight ahead to join the GR®48: white and red markings.

(6) Turn right, walk along the fields of solar panels and continue to the next crossroads.

(7) Turn right again and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with a road north of Cachedenier.

(8) Cross it and continue straight ahead to rejoin the D16.

(9) Turn right and drive carefully along it until you reach the junction with the small road leading to Cachedenier. Cross the D16 with the same caution and take a path that leads to the banks of the Vienne.

(10) Leave the direct access to Assit on your right and continue along the river to return to the car park on Chemin des Bruyères (S/E).
