Start at the hamlet of Les Roissards in Bouvante-le-Haut
Yellow/Green markings
(S/E) Head north, skirting the houses at the top for about a hundred metres, then take the small grassy path on the left, heading south. You’ll come to a road.
(1) Cross it and continue along the path that follows the bottom of the Combe valley.
(2) When the path turns right, continue uphill along the track at the bottom of the valley. This gradually veers off to the left and joins a cross-country track.
(3) Turn left as you climb, pass two hairpin bends and reach the cliffs.
(4) Pass beneath them and continue climbing.
(5) After passing under a remarkable arch on a dizzying path, stop at this natural viewpoint.
(6) Cross the stream that plunges over the Saut de la Truite and reach a fork in the path.
(7) Follow the Mur des Chartreux opposite for 20 m to make the most of this viewpoint, then return to the fork.
(7) Take the south-facing path which climbs gently up to the Refuge Gardiole.
(8) At the Refuge Gardiole, the end point of this hike, take in the surroundings, then head back to the car park via the same route, enjoying a different view in a different light (S/E).
