To reach the start point, follow the SP90 road between Badesi and Vignola Mare. A sign points to Costa Paradiso; follow this road and enter this private estate, which is open to the public. Park in the car park closest to the sea.
Campervans will need to park further up due to a ban signposted before the steep descent towards the sea.
(S/E) Leave the car park via the southern exit, where a path begins. This path is well-maintained (with steps and handrails) along the coast, sometimes carved into the granite. You will soon come to steps leading down to Cala li Cossi beach. After this beach, the path becomes more rugged, with shaded sections alternating with sunny ones. Rocks sculpted by erosion resemble animal silhouettes.
(1) Here, you can spot a penguin, and you’ll find other shapes and an arch by the side of the path. After a few steep sections, the path enters the scrubland and heads north-west. Before the sheepfold, turn left onto a track climbing south-west and walk for about 500 m (no sign or marker).
(2) Take the path descending to the right towards the sea.
(3) Pass by a cove, then continue along the path as it winds through the scrub.
(4) At the fork, you can turn right to reach Cala Tinnari beach by climbing down the rocks (4 metres). Alternatively, for an easier route, climb up to the left for a few metres and you will soon find a descent secured by fixed ropes.
This is the option shown on the map.
(5) Step onto the pebbles of the beach – stop here and enjoy the beach if you don’t want to climb 200 metres to see the view from higher up – and cross it .
(6) Leave the beach by climbing about fifty metres up a steep path which then flattens out and widens as it passes beneath tall scrub.
(7) Leave this path and turn left (hairpin bend). The track is steep until it meets another, wider track coming from the tarmac road SP90.
(8) Turn right (hairpin bend) onto the track closed to cars, which leads to the summit. There are houses on either side of the track. Cross an old car park and arrive at a ruin, which is the highest point of the hike.
(9) Enjoy the panoramic view towards Isola dell’Asinara, its gulf, Isola Rossa, Capo Testa, and even the white cliffs of Bonifacio.
The return journey follows the same route.
Look out for the fixed ropes to leave Tinnari beach. From there on, it is impossible to get lost until you reach the end. You are sure to discover other aspects of the coast on this return journey (S/E).
