Start: Park in the Diamond Lake Conservation Area car park off Wanaka Mount Aspiring Road.
(S/E) At the end of the car park, cross the fence via the stile, then follow the wide, winding path upwards.
(1) At the junction, turn left along the lakeside, offering a small access to the lake.
(2) At this second junction, turn left and climb the steps up to the viewpoint.
(3) Enjoy the view, then continue uphill, the path becoming a footpath. At the next junction, turn left via the "western track". The path climbs well and is somewhat shaded.
(4) At the foot of a cliff, follow it to the left to go around it and keep climbing. At the next junction, keep left to continue along the west side and reach Rocky Peak summit.
(5) ''At the summit, enjoy the 360° view, especially of Lake Wanaka and the town in the distance, as well as the surrounding area. There's plenty of space.
Continue down the trail. The descent is similar to the ascent, sometimes with big steps. There are several small gaps in the trail, offering fine views. Keep left at the next junction, then reach another.
(6) Turn left again to reach a viewpoint over Lake Wanaka. It's a round trip with a fence to cross, thanks to the existing stile.
(7) Enjoy the view, then return to the previous junction.
(6) On the way back, resume the descent, taking in the views from time to time. Reach the lake lookout.
(3) Continue downhill to the next junction.
(2) Turn left to go around the lake and rejoin the route already taken.
(1) Continue on the opposite side of the road to the car park. (S/E)
