From Aubenas, heading towards Le Puy-en-Velay (N102), turn left onto the D19 at Lalevade-d’Ardèche.
Park in the car park at the Col de la Croix de Bauzon.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the D19 carefully to take the road opposite.
(1) After about a hundred metres, the road becomes a track; follow this track to pass to the left of the barn towards Le Bez. Follow this track to the signpost: Bois des Rabeyres.
(2) Leave the path on your left and continue along the track towards Mayres, which continues to climb until a hairpin bend. Carry on to the junction at the signpost: Rocher des Taillades.
(3) Take a grassy path (marked white and yellow) on the right. Follow this path, which passes by the Tour des Poignets.
(4) The path joins a track at the signpost: Fautouras; take this track to the left towards the Rocher d’Abraham.
(5) The track becomes a ridge path leading to the Col de Mendras, where you’ll find a grassy clearing.
(6) Leave the ridge path and turn left to begin a winding descent through the forest until you reach the mountainside path, which you follow to the signpost marked ‘Statue’.
(7) From there, follow the three-yellow-dot markings which lead through a maze of rocks to the statue.
(8) Turn back towards the Fautouras marker.
(4) Leave the path (white-yellow) you took on the way there on your right and continue along the track on the left until you reach a three-way junction just before the track bends to the left.
(9) Take the path on the right which climbs before turning into a downhill track. You’ll reach a small road above a house.
(1) Take this road on the left; shortly afterwards, you’ll rejoin the road you took at the start, which you follow to the left to reach the crossroads and the car park at the start (S/E).
Beautiful hike, but the markings are not very visible on the final climb to the top of Abraham's Rock....
