Departure from Ribeauvillé, at the Jardin de Ville (Herrengarten) car park.
(S/E) Cross the car park, keeping the park on your right. At the stop sign near the cemetery, turn left, then cross the Wine Route.
Yellow triangle markings
(1) Take the first lane on the right towards Schlusselstein. Continue along the tarmac road to climb through the vineyards. At a crossroads, at the foot of a small copse, turn left (signposted Clos Saint-Vincent) and continue along the tarmac road.
(2) At the intersection immediately ahead, continue straight ahead (the right-hand lane will be used on the return journey). Pass in front of the Osterberg reservoir. Further up, continue straight ahead, following the yellow triangle markings (towards the Altenholz nature trail).
(3) At the end of the road, continue along the path opposite, follow a fence, then enter the forest.
(4) When you reach a bend in a forest road, do not follow it, but turn right. You will arrive at Schlusselstein Rock (see information board at the site).
Blue Cross markings
(5) At Schlusselstein, retrace your steps slightly to follow the Blue Cross markings opposite towards Thannenkirch (do not continue following the Blue Cross markings towards Bergheim Reichenstein). The trail continues downhill, then turns right to remain level. Cross a forest path and immediately turn right (still following the Blue Cross markings towards Thannenkirch) on a slight incline. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead towards Thannenkirch (ignore the Red Triangle markings towards the castles of Ribeauvillé) along a path on the mountainside.
No markings
(6) After a wooden railing, find a forest path and turn right onto it, leaving the signposts.
(7) At a sharp bend with a stele, turn right to continue downhill along a stream on your left.
Red-white-red rectangle markings
(8) Before reaching the road (D42), turn right onto a path marked with red-white-red rectangles towards Bergheim. Stay parallel to the road, following a stream. Further on, cross a pontoon bridge, follow the road for a few metres and climb up opposite (towards Bergheim) via a winding path leading to a small promontory called Witzigfelsen.
(9) At Witzigfelsen, continue to the right towards Reichenberg Castle, then descend the path to the right along the Reichenberg property. Return to the RD42 and follow it to the left for about 100 metres.
(10) After a metal guardrail, continue a little further, then turn right, still following the red-white-red rectangle markings towards Ribeauvillé.
The path continues along the edge of the forest and vineyards.
Continue straight ahead until you reach the intersection you passed on the way there.
(2) Turn left and retrace your steps.
(1) Continue straight ahead along the Wine Route to Grand'Rue for a visit to the village before returning to the car park (S/E).
