Park in the Col de la Ventouse car park, accessible via the D2089.
(S/E) Head towards the south-east corner of the car park: with your back to the road, towards the back and to the left. Take a path that descends and then runs alongside a large meadow on the right. You will come to a crossroads with signposts.
(1) Continue straight ahead towards "Saulzet-le-Froid". At the fork in the path, keep right and follow the mountain bike trail markers. You will reach a road (D213): immediately turn right onto Chemin de Charmont.
(2) At the next intersection, you will see the red and white GR®4 and 441 markings. Continue straight ahead on the marked path. At the four-way intersection, turn right with the GR®.
(3) At the T-junction, turn right, still following the GR®. Ignore another path on the right further on and you will reach a four-way junction at the Puy de Boursoux signpost.
(4) Stay on the GR® trail by turning left. This is where the round trip to the Combegrasse circular loop begins. Further on, the path becomes a small road and you will arrive at a farm building on the right. This is the place known as La Garandie.
(5) Take the path on the right, which goes around a campsite. You will arrive at a four-way intersection. Leave the GR® trail and turn right. You will arrive at a picnic area, with a path on the right and a hiking signpost.
(6) Follow the yellow and green markings to the right towards Puy de la Combegrasse. Pass a water catchment area, then an old quarry (on your right). Shortly afterwards, veer left to enter a meadow, then immediately turn right. Join the path that has been laid out to prevent erosion of the slope and climb to the left. Reach the first summit of Combegrasse: "Chaîne des Puys" orientation table, then continue along the path.
(7) At the directional signs, set off on a round trip towards "Panorama sur le Massif du Sancy" and reach the dedicated orientation table on the second summit of Combegrasse. Retrace your steps to the directional signs.
(7) Turn right towards "Retour parking" (Return to car park). Ignore the hairpin bend path on the left further on and join the picnic area in the undergrowth, then the path at the hiking signpost.
(6) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction to the left and, at the crossroads, follow the GR® markings to the left to go around the campsite.
(5) Follow the outward route in reverse to the left to return to the intersection at the Puy de Boursoux signpost.
(4) Leave the GR® markings and follow the second path on the left. Ignore a path on the left. At the next intersection, keep to the right, following the mountain bike markings. Then ignore a path on the right.
(8) At the fork in the path, keep to the right. The path then turns right. Further on, you will walk along a large meadow. At the end of the meadow, you will arrive at the intersection of the circular path.
(1) Follow the path you took on the way there to the left, towards "Laschamps", which runs alongside the large meadow. You will arrive at the Col de la Ventouse car park (S/E).
