In Port-les-Barques, when you reach the point via the road that runs along the south coast, Avenue de la Baie, park before the point, at the side of the road, at a place called Le Peu. There are two cannons, an orientation table with very little information and a picnic table.
(S/E) Continue towards the point on the path between the road and the coast, dotted with numerous fishing huts. Keep following the path when the road bends to the right, going around the car park at the point as close to the coast as possible. Cross the access to the dyke and continue on the path opposite, between the coast and the oyster farms. Go behind the chapel and you will arrive at a car park. On the right, a large sign provides tourist information, including the opening hours for Île Madame: take note of these.
(1) Take the Passe aux Bœufs, the submersible path that leads to Île Madame.
(2) Once on the island, turn right onto the road and you will immediately find an information sign about the refractory priests near an oratory. Continue along the road and further on, on the right, you will find the entrance to the Croix de Galets site (the priests' tomb). Continue along the road and, when it veers to the left, follow the path closest to the coast. Pass to the right of the fort to reach the Puits des Insurgés site, with its square buildings and view towards La Rochelle.
(3) Return via the same route you took to get there.
(1) Instead of passing behind the chapel along the coast, head left to reach the entrance to the chapel site (information panel about the refractory priests), then enter and go to the open-air altar. Six panels on the wall tell the story of these priests (another information panel). Then pass to the left of the monument to reach the coastal path, and follow the reverse route of the outward journey to return to Le Peu (S/E).
