Pointe aux Biches to Rivière du Tombeau

A beautiful walk to the Tombeau River. For now, the adventure ends here on this side of the island. I had imagined reaching Port Louis via the beach, but crossing the river on foot proves almost impossible. Unless you take a long detour by road to get to the other side... or start from Port Louis.

Description of the walk

From anywhere on the island, you can get there by bus, taxi or car, and parking is easy along the beach. The return journey from Rivière du Tombeau can be made by bus, but be aware that there are only three buses a day and the timetable is unreliable (line 20), with a stop at Arsenal for the northbound route or to Port Louis. Alternatively, you can call a taxi or walk the 3 km to Arsenal to catch the bus.

There are a few difficult passages and a 750m detour because the seaside is very complicated. We cross the Balaclava Marine Reserve where the Citron River flows into the sea.

Notes

Always bring water, plastic shoes for crossing the water, and a hat. Best done at low tide.

Worth a visit

There are a few small Tamil temples along the route, wild and marshy areas, and beautiful beaches for swimming.
