From Grand Gaube to Petit Saint-Antoine

From Grand Gaube, the hike heads east and the topography of the area is much more natural. Here, there are no large hotels, but small beaches and coves, scattered islets and large expanses of mangroves. Along the way, the Ganga Mar Mandir temple, located on a small peninsula, is very picturesque, as is the Oratory of God Donné.

Description of the walk

(S) The hike starts at Grand Gaube beach heading east, from (1). The route is difficult until (3), as you will mostly be walking in the water and on volcanic rocks, but there are small beaches and coves where you can rest.

At (2) is the Bain de Rosnay pier.

After Melville, you have to go around the mangroves and the Bernard basin. A dyke is marked on the map, but it is impassable in reality. On a small peninsula at (4) is the pretty Ganga Mar Mandir temple. Then at (5) is the Oratory to Dieu Donné.

E marks the end of this hike, as a path marked on the map does not actually exist, which would have allowed me to return to the coast. I reach the small village of Saint-Antoine, in the Goodlans district, by road in order to find a bus to return to Grand Gaube.
