Description of the walk

Start: Parking just before the end of Rue de Sancho Panza, take the upward slope track on the right and park on the right.

(S/E) Go North and follow a track that climbs up, passing to the right of a water station. Make two hairpin bends and continue on the track.

(1) Pass the foot of Talahijas summit, skirting it to the right. Continue to climb almost straight on, heading North-North-West then North-West.

(2) At around 550 m altitude, the track gives way to a zigzagging path and the slope steepens. Go through a gate and climb a final steep slope between fences to reach the summit.

(3) Return by the reverse route to the car park (S/E).

A great view from the summit, reached in 2 hours thanks to a lull in the wind that's quite rare in this month of July, and very few clouds at the summit, which isn't common either!

Easy access and a splendid view from the summit, the highest point on the island.
Good walkers will reach the summit in less than 2 hours.
Save this walk for when the weather is favourable, so you can enjoy the panoramic views from the summit.

We first programmed the link to the starting point using Google: no problem, the car park is large and easily accessible. The description of the route itself is excellent. To "ease" the description of the ascent and descent, which are advertised as always climbing, it should be pointed out that there are a few flat areas and even a few downhill sections that are very useful for recovering. Announced as taking 3 hours 20 minutes on the signposts, and without really forcing the pace, it only took us 2 hours 25 minutes from the car park to the peak (what a marvellous panorama, even though it's misty!).
We almost opted for the longer version "from Esquinzo", but we think we made the right choice, as this "second" route - which is longer - doesn't seem to offer much visual interest - at least until it joins up with the shorter route we chose - and the first landmarks seem more uncertain...
Many thanks to the creators!

We also recommend a short climb to the "Hond'o volcano", to the north of the island, but unfortunately we set off "without tools" and didn't record the route! It's full of squirrels (too tame...) and the tour around the crest of the volcano is absolutely sublime for discovering the whole north of the island and, in the distance, Lanzarote. Don't miss the tour of Los Lobos Island either!
