La Cour to Tillières circular

A 5 km walk through the countryside, ideal for spotting the local flora and fauna thanks to the footpaths and the proximity of various water sources. Will you be lucky enough to spot a cattle egret in the warmer months?

Description of the walk

Follow the yellow signposts throughout the walk
Park in the car park at Moulin Guillou on the D223

(S/E) With your back to the mill and facing the road, turn left and walk for about 500 metres. Turn left at the first junction towards the village of “Le Boulay” and immediately take the path on the right. Continue along the path until you reach the next crossroads.

(1) At the junction, turn left towards “La Grande Touche”. Walk through the village and then through “La Petite Touche”, continuing on to the next road.

(2) Cross over to take the path opposite and continue along the vineyards. You’ll come to a crossroads. Cross the D224 road with care; it leads to the villages of “L’Orvoire” and “La Cour”.

(3) At “La Cour”, leave the road and take the path to the left for about 300 metres, then at the four-way junction, turn left. From there, follow the path uphill (ignoring the paths leading to the right) until you reach the village of “La Noue”.

(4) On leaving the village, turn left onto the footpath before the road. It runs alongside the vineyards to the next crossroads (ignore the paths leading to the right or left).

(5) Turn left, then right 30 metres further on to return to the starting point via the path that runs behind the mill (S/E).

Worth a visit

-The village of La Cour and its fortified farm: The buildings at La Cour are thought to form part of a former 18th-century seigneury, organised around a square courtyard comprising: a barn with pillars, a wine press, a porch with a semicircular arch, and a chapel (now lost). A block of granite engraved with the Templar cross and a lintel bearing a fleur-de-lis were found there (not visible). Private property.

-The village of L’Orvoire: L’Orvoire was a former fiefdom under the jurisdiction of Montfaucon, with a castle holding the rights of high, middle and low justice and a chapel dedicated to St Anne. L’Orvoire took the name Basse-Orvoire following the construction of a more modern building for the lords of the parish of Haute-Orvoire between 1775 and 1780 by the Marquis de Villoutreys.

A pleasant, easy route. It’s just as well the route description is very detailed, as there are no signposts.
You pass through pretty farms and villages with a rich heritage typical of the Mauges region.

A lovely little walk in the Mauges countryside; thankfully, the route on the app is very accurate, as the signposting is rather patchy.
It’s a shame it was drizzling, but the paths were still passable and there was a bit of tarmac road too.
