Short circular loop from Chavanol via the Col du Planil

A route of no great difficulty. In the first section, there are beautiful views over the Gier valley, the Piney (sometimes dry) and Rive dams. The paths are a bit stony, so wear good walking shoes. On the return journey, after the Col du Planil, there are views of the hamlets in the valley.

Description of the walk

Park in the restaurant car park at Chavanol, in the commune of Doizieux. If the car park is full, take the dirt track to the left of the restaurant and park 100 m further on, on the right.

(S/E) With your back to the restaurant, cross the road, go round the house opposite on the left and turn immediately right onto the wide dirt track until you reach a junction on the left.

(1) Turn left to join the GR®7.

(2) Follow it to the left as far as the Col du Planil.

(3) At the Croix du Planil, do not cross the road, but turn immediately left onto the path running alongside the road (signposted Chavanol). Continue along this shadier section on the hillside.

(4) Ignore a path on the right that goes downhill, and go straight on.

(5) 300 m further on, keep to the right, then continue straight on to the restaurant car park (S/E).
