Park on the Place de l'Église by the fountain.
(S/E) Take the road leading down to the right towards the cemetery and turn onto a paved path that descends to the left along the cemetery wall (signposted as Chemin du Ranquet). Follow it to the tarmac road leading to the sewage treatment plant.
(1) Just opposite this junction with the road, take a small path that runs alongside it and then crosses a tiny stream. Begin the climb back up towards the village along a very stony path. You’ll soon reach a concrete path that runs just below the village houses on the castle side and leads to a square surrounded by lime trees situated right at the foot of the castle.
(2) From this square, it’s worth getting lost in the narrow streets and stairways leading up to the castle’s esplanades (so you don’t need to follow the marked route to the letter). From the various accessible esplanades (part of the ruins is off-limits), enjoy the views over the village, towards the Païolive woods and, more broadly, the southern Ardèche. Head back down to the lime tree square via the street that skirts the hill (a very beautiful viewpoint there too).
(2) From this square, you can easily reach the Place de l’Église via the road (D251) (S/E).
