A short tour between the Gers and the Tarn-et-Garonne

A lovely little route, with a few steep but short climbs, between the Gers and the Tarn-et-Garonne. Pleasant, especially in the morning at sunrise, with perhaps significant temperature differences between the hilltops and the Aratz valley.

Description of the route

Start from Place de la Vierge, near Mansonville Town Hall.

(S/E) Take Rue de la Mairie, then Rue Principale at the cemetery, and follow it to the end.

(1) Continue left and follow the D3 to the junction with the D89.

(2) Turn right onto the D89, towards La Chapelle.

(3) You’ll see Château Bouzet on your right, followed by some pretty houses in the valley. Continue along the D89 until you reach the junction with the D25.

(4) Turn right onto the D25 towards Gramont, and drive through the Poupas communal forest.

(5) As you emerge from the woods, take in the sweeping view of Marsac and its castle, and continue on the D25. The descent towards Marsac is a little tricky as the road is in poor condition and quite steep. Join the D11.

(6) Turn left onto the D11 towards Marsac, then right onto the D25. Pass through the village of Marsac (castle), and continue along the D11 until you reach a three-way junction with a central island.

(7) Keep left, towards Gramont, and reach the magnificent castle and the Honey Museum in the village.

(8) After enjoying the site, return to the three-way junction.

(7) Turn left onto the D25 and head for the next four-way junction.

(9) Continue right onto the D88 towards Valence d'Agen. Through the Aratz valley, reach Mansonville, turn right onto the C1, and you will soon arrive at the Place de la Vierge (S/E).
