Petit Ballon - Sengern

(S) Set off across the field at the end of the terrace of the Kahlerwasen farmhouse inn. Follow the Yellow Ring and Red Disc markings. Reach the road and the crossroads below street view.

Continue right along the tarmac road to reach the Buchwald farmhouse inn ( street view). Then continue along the path that runs alongside the road and pass by the ruins of the Wasserbourg cable car.

(1) Continue up the gentle slope to reach the Strohberg farmhouse inn photo.

(2) Follow the Yellow Ring and Red Disc signposts. Cross the ridge line and enter the forest. The path descends. As you leave the forest, turn right to follow the Red Triangle signpost.

Please note: at the next fork (3), there is no signpost; take the path leading down to the left. After 100 m, do not head into the fields opposite, but take the path leading down to the left, running alongside the forest (on your left) and a low stone wall (on your right). Follow the path which joins the road, sometimes running alongside it, or cutting across its hairpin bends. Reach the village of Nagelschmiede.

(4) Walk down into the village ( Street View), following the main street (Rue du Petit Ballon) and continue to follow the Red Triangle signpost. Pass the chapel.

(5) At the monastery, 40 m after the junction with the winding road that climbs to the right, take the path on the right signposted Sengern, which starts with a few steps (street view). It passes through the forest above the village and descends via a narrow path between two houses. Then cross the main road (Rue du Markstein D430) and take the street opposite, signposted Sengern.

After the bridge over the Lauch, take the street of the same name on the right to reach the church 300 m away.
