A large car park at the start of the route allows you to leave your vehicle there for the day. Access via the D536 then the Route de Prevenchères just before the campsite.
(S/E) Turn left at the Mission Cross and cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de Pourseille. Head towards the 12th-century church. Go round it on the left to pass between the two cemeteries. Then turn left, cross the road to reach a beautiful Franciscan chapel, which houses a magnificent painting by M. Saussac, a renowned painter and close friend of Jean-Ferrat. Press the switch to illuminate the fresco.
(1) Return to the church via the same route in the opposite direction. Continue straight on to the junction where a Mission Cross stands, marking the start of the pink trail.
(2) Leave the return route on your right and turn left. Cross the A-road and head towards the Pyramid and its monument. You can also see the 45-metre-high iron bridge spanning the Fontaulière and enjoy a superb view of the river; toilets and a drinking fountain are nearby.
(3) Continue along the path, cross the Route de la Gravenne and take the Chemin des Vignes opposite. At Les Chalvets, turn right then head straight on, leaving the house on your right. Follow the path as it takes a sharp right-hand bend and leads to the next point of interest: a large wall, the last remaining vestige of Montlaur Castle, which once overlooked Montpezat. Please note: the castle is private property; do not enter.
(4) Turn left at the junction to follow Chemin du Château. At the left-hand bend, turn right towards the centre of Montpezat-sous-Bauzon. Cross the end of Rue de la Mazade (dead end) and head straight on to pass in front of the town hall.
(5) Continue left into the woods along the Chemin des Endettes, come out onto the Voie Jules César and cross it to take the path leading to the D536, almost directly opposite.
(6) Turn right and keep close to the edge of the A-road as there is no pavement. After about a hundred metres, take the steps on the left. Cross the Ruisseau de Pourseille and follow the path which joins the Route de Chalias further on.
(7) Cross over and take the path opposite, which joins the Route de Chalias further on; follow this to the left until you reach the D536, which you’ll come to at a round fountain.
(8) Turn left, take the first street on the right, pass near the town hall and come out onto Rue de la Mazade. Turn left to rejoin the D536, follow it to the right for a few dozen metres before taking a passageway on the left between the houses to reach the church square and its car park.
(9) Opposite the church, head right, passing in front of the care home. At the roundabout, continue to the right, reach the schools’ roundabout and carry straight on along the meadow until you reach the Pourtalas junction. Then turn left to reach the Croix de Mission.
(2) Turn left, then left again at the church to return to the car park (S/E).
