Old Man of Coniston by Goat's water

Start: Car park by the Coniston Tourist Information Center (1 Ruskin Ave Coniston, Cumbria LA21 8EH) Grid ref. SD 303 975

(S/E) Exit the car park and turn left on Ruskin Avenue, then left on the B5285. Cross Broughton Road and continue straight. Cross the river, continue on B5285 then take right on Station Road. Continue straight on Station Road until seeing a footpath on the left.

(1) Use that footpath to arrive on Walna Scar Road. Continue left on Walna Scar Road until seeing on the right a large path going up (with Nettle Crag on the right).

(2) Take that right path going up towards Goat's water. Pass Goat's water and continue straight on the path going up to Goat's Hawse. At the intersection of several paths (Goat's Hawse) take right towards the Old Man of Coniston summit. Continue going up on the main path ignoring side paths until you reach the summit.

(3) Once at the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, take the main path in front of you going down towards the quarries with Low Water on your left hand side. Continue on this main path going down, ignoring paths left and right, until reaching a road with a pub on your left.

(4) Turn right on Yewdale Road, then left on Station Road. Left again on Broughton Road and right on Ruskin Avenue to walk back to the car park (S/E)

Note: Can be very windy at the top of the Old Man of Coniston Summit.
