Nuraghe La Prisgiona and Tomba dei Giganti in Arzachena

Near Arzachena (Sardinia), a short, very easy walk (ideal with children) between two archaeological sites: the “Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Vecchiu” and “Nuraghe La Prisgiona”. Partly on roads, partly through heath. Best visited out of season due to the high number of visitors to these sites in the height of summer. Including the visits, this walk will take between one and a half and two hours.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the ticket office car park, cross the meadow to reach the road that runs near the "Tomba dei giganti di Coddu Vecchiu" site, a collective tomb from the Bronze Age.

(1) Continue along the road which climbs gently up the hillside. At the junction, turn left to reach the second site, the "Nuraghe La Prisgiona", dating from the same period.

(2) You can, of course, turn back by following the road, but below, opposite the ticket office, there is a path (Sentiero dei Giganti) that winds down through the heath back to the starting point, offering some lovely views of the countryside.

At the end of this path, rejoin the road and the car park at the start (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 89 m - Car park (ticket office)
  2. 1 : km 0.18 - alt. 87 m - Site: Tomba dei giganti di Coddu Vechiu
  3. 2 : km 0.83 - alt. 127 m - Nuraghe La Prisgiona site
  4. S/E : km 1.69 - alt. 89 m - Car park (ticket office)

Notes

Very easy walk, no special footwear required; the return path is on earth and sand (a bit slippery in places). The return section is partially shaded.
Bottles of water are available for purchase at ticket offices (1) and (2).

Worth a visit

Of course, there are two archaeological sites, with the Nuraghe La Prisgiona (2) being the most interesting.
Admission is €3 per site.
There is very little information available at the Tomba dei giganti di Coddu Vecchiu site (1). This is a collective tomb and a village dating from the Bronze Age. There is also a beautiful view of the countryside around Arzachena from the path on the return leg.

A short circular route that takes in both archaeological sites.
The first part is along a small road and the return route is through the woods.
Both sites are really interesting.
What’s more, it’s only half an hour from Olbia Airport – the perfect route to end your stay on the island on a high note!

A lovely walk, with no major difficulties. Don’t miss a visit to the nurraghe, which is very well preserved.

An easy hike. We did the route in the opposite direction to the one you suggest, and we prefer ours!
The Nuraghe provides information about this historical period, so it’s interesting.
