(S/E) Exit the car park and take left (walking towards Malham village). After a couple of meters take the main bridge on the right to cross the river. Then take directly right on the footpath following the river. Continue on this footpath until seeing a path on your left. Take that left path going towards Janet's Cave and waterfall. Continue straight across fields and wood until reaching Janet's waterfall. Then continue straight on the path until reaching a road.

(1) At the road take right, then follow it until seeing a footpath on your left (after the bend) going towards Gordale Scar. Take that left path and continue straight North until reaching Gordale Scar and waterfalls.

(2) Once at Gordale Scar retrace your steps until reaching the road. Take right at the road and then right again to cross Gordale Bridge.

(3) After the bridge, continue straight on the Dales High Way crossing several fields. Continue straight on this path until reaching Malham Cove.

(4) Once at the top of Malham Cove continue on the main path going around the Cove (West, then South) and going down towards the river. Keep following the river and the stay on the main path until arriving in Malham village.

Hi. I walked this today as a wet weather alternative to a longer day out. Great walk for half a day and it avoids the scramble up Gordale Scar waterfall which was in full spate today after a day's rain. Not many people about as it was showery with hail (1st Jan 2025) but the local residents of Malham like to have a cold water dip in Janet's Foss to welcome in the New Year, brave and hardy folks that they are.
Thanks Mark

This was a great route! I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing it!

As it was raining, there were not many people, making those places even more special. Ideal for photographs.

Be careful if you go when it rains, it is REALLY slippery...

I paid £2 to park along the road (honesty box) otherwise there is the National Park Car Park with toilets. (£0.20 donation)
