Description of the walk

(S/E) Enter reserve from car park, some info boards about reserve here. Turn east (right) to the metal gate leading to a substantial track, Moor Lane. Continue east along Moor Lane. As the track bends north (left) follow it towards Showrick Bridge.

(1) Cross the bridge and descend steps following footpath northeast across field. This can be very muddy so could use the Alt embankment to your right as a dryer alternative.

(2) Follow disused rail track north (left). Some info boards along the line explain its history.

(3) Leave rail track turning southwest (left) onto good quality farm track running under power lines. The path ascends embankment beside the pumping station and turns south (left) briefly along the embankment.

(4) Takes bridge over the Alt and follow the path right around dykes.

(5) Cross footbridge and head southwest (right) along dyke towards coppice. Path turns southeast (left) and heads towards farm buildings.

(6) Take Blackcar Lane south (right) to the main road.

(7) Turn southeast (left) along Park Wall Lane. You will need to cross the road in order to keep safe on the pedestrian footpath.

(8) Turn northeast (left) down Broad Lane.

(9) Take gate into Lunt Nature Reserve and continue on the main path. Reserve consists of several ponds with hides and paths so you probably want to explore it rather than walk straight through. It's pretty open so difficult to get lost. The car park at the starting point is at the southeast corner of the reserve.(S/E)
