Hello, Walker 69 and gfl57,

Thank you for those valuable exchanges.

Indeed, for now, on Visorando it is possible to :
- automatically record the "on the ground" route with the Visorando mobile app to have the exact route (and get an exact GPX) and be able to describe it directly,
- upload a GPX file from another device,
- manually plan and play with the GPX with the route planner.

However, it is impossible to snap a route automatically. We are working on developing this feature as we just acquired Plotaroute which has it.
I am the one who moderated the walk and route and that day I apparently forgot to adjust the route. I apologise to both of you and adjusted the route.

Enjoy your walks !

"Routes are generally made up of a series of significant points along your path. (Routes are where you are going.) Tracks are made up of data gathered automatically from your motion while the GPS setting is turned ON. They provide a record of where you have been so you can later determine your path." - Garmin.com

Visorando walks are represented as routes, basically a series of straight lines. Visorando calculates the route length automatically. As the actual track walked is not usually straight lines there is bound to be a difference between track and route lengths.

Some walking apps attempt to dynamically map the route to actual paths on the ground in an attempt to reduce the "You have left the route" alerts.

The walk was ok for the exercise and being flat was not challenging. The landscape was quite dull which led us to think we won’t bother with it again. One thing we did discover was that the route length given was over a mile out which on a proposed 5mile ending at 6.3 miles is significant although within our capabilities. The problem appears to be that the route lines are straight however the paths and river banks are not and we were constantly pinged by the app telling us we were off route. More care when overlaying the route on theOS Map would help improve this.
