Description of the walk

The walk is rated as difficult due to the need to navigate around fallen trees, which can make it challenging and might even hinder your ability to complete the route.

Start: Cardwell House, Jeffrey Hill, PR3 2TT. Grid Ref. SD 640 409

(S/E) Take the kissing gate at the East end (right) of the car park and follow the path North-East up Jeffrey Hill towards the stone pillar on the skyline. At the stone pillar, head initially left following the path which bends right (East) and slowly climbs to where a wall crosses your path. Here you get good views North over Chipping to Bleasdale Moor.

(1) Turn left (North-East), keeping the wall on your right and follow the path to the trig point. Take time to enjoy the view North from the trig point before continuing North-East past it to where the wall bends sharply left. (North).

(2) Cross the wall-stile and continue East-North-East on the enclosed forestry path. You may need to navigate around fallen trees.

(3) At the waymarker post turn right (South) and follow the path, navigating around fallen trees, to a broad forestry track.

(4) Turn left (East) and follow the track, navigating around fallen trees, to where it splits.

(5) Take the path left (North-East). Just before the next turn, there is a superb viewpoint on the North (left).
Turn right (South) and go straight ahead through the felled forest to a broad track.

(6) Turn right (West) onto the broad track. Enjoy the excellent views North and East over the Ribble Valley on this section.

(7) At the next junction, turn left (South) and follow the path all the way down past Green Thorn Farm across Brownslow Brook to Clitheroe Old Road.

(8) At the road, turn right (West) following the footpath keeping the wall on your left.

(9) When you see a footpath on your right, turn right (North) along the track as it climbs Brownslow Hill.

(10) Turn sharp left (West) and continue uphill until reaching a stone wall. Cross the wall and turn left (South-West) keeping the wall on your left. When you encounter the junction you passed before at waypoint (1) continue to follow the path South-West down the slope adjacent to a stone wall.

Enjoy, the excellent views North and West along and over Ribble Valley. Go through the gate, turn right (North-West) and walk back to the car park by way of the Forty Acre Lane(S/E).

Hi
No we couldn’t find a way through. We tried various ways to go round then head back to the gps route but couldn’t. We were a bit concerned about getting lost so ended up retracing our steps and going back the way we had come

Hi Hcowburn,
Thanks for taking the time to rate and comment.
I am very sorry to hear that you weren't able to follow the route as is.
The route was created on Visorando on August 25th 2022.
Just to make sure, I checked the route on OS maps, on OSM, on the author's website and have even drawn it in another route planner, just to make sure it's still plotable like this. Everything seems to say that it is and that there should be a path.
I'll get in touch with the author about it.
Were you able to take another path and finish the route?
If so, could you help us change it to make it viable again by telling us what path you took instead?
Best regards,
Julien

I think it must be a significant period of time since the route was written. The part of the walk where it mentions fallen trees, we found to be impassable. We tried for at least 30mins to find a way through lots of fallen trees and undergrowth without success. The gps was telling us where the path was but it was impossible to get through
