Description of the route

Starts at the Laives leisure centre.

Signpost No. 22

(S/E) On leaving the leisure centre, turn left at the Stop sign and continue straight on.

(1) When you reach the pumping station building on your right, turn onto the path on the left and follow it until you reach a hunting lodge on the left. Continue straight on, then stay on the track and do not follow the path on your right. Further on, stay on the track, turn right and continue straight on until you reach a tarmac road.

(2) At the tarmac road, turn right onto it and ignore the path leading to a lake. Follow this tarmac road for a considerable distance until you reach the village of Laives.

(3) Once you’ve entered the village, carry on straight ahead for a short distance, then turn right at the junction with a grassy central island. Follow Route de Beaumont and carry on straight ahead until you reach the Stop sign.

(4) At the Stop sign, carry on straight ahead onto Chemin du Paradis.

(5) At the town hall, turn left; then, at the fountain, carry on straight ahead along Rue du Centre until you reach a Stop sign.

(6) At the Stop sign, carry on straight ahead onto Rue de Sermaisey and follow it for a good distance until you reach the motorway bridge.

(7) Just before the bridge, follow the tarmac path to the right, signposted ‘Église Romane de Saint-Martin’. Be warned, it’s quite a steep climb for a considerable distance. This path forms part of the Way of St James. At the three-way junction, turn right (one-way); the left-hand fork is for the return journey.

(8) At the church of Saint-Martin de Laives, a little further on, take the footpath (closed to all vehicles) which descends very steeply and is slippery (please take great care). Continue all the way down.

(9) At the crossroads, turn right.

(10) When you reach the tarmac road, carry on straight ahead and you’ll soon reach Ruffey Municipal Park on your left.

(11) After leaving the park, having taken a short detour inside it, return to the bottom of the path you came down.

(10) Turn left and follow the tarmac road in the opposite direction (there is little or no traffic, but do take care nonetheless). Climb up alongside the vineyards on your left and reach the ridge.

(12) Turn right onto the stony path, which climbs quite steeply, and head for the church of Saint-Martin de Laives.

(8) At the church, follow the path back in the opposite direction to return to the Laives leisure centre (S/E).
