The sails of the Landeyron

A family-friendly forest walk along the Landeyron with its potholes, waterfall and fording point.

Please note: in winter and after heavy rain, the ford is likely to be impassable: you will need to turn back.

Description of the walk

Park in the gravel area on Chemin du Mont.

(S/E) Turn right, cross the small bridge over the Leat de Landéron. Ignore a path on the left and follow the track straight ahead as it climbs into the forest.

(1) Turn right for 100 m to see several large potholes: watch out for young children. Turn back.

(1) Continue to the right.

(2) Turn right again to enjoy the view of the waterfall. Retrace your steps.

(2) Continue to the right.

(3) Cross the leat at the ford, which is possible depending on the time of year and rainfall. Turn right about a hundred metres further on and follow the left bank of the Bief du Landéron. Go straight on to rejoin the Chemin du Mont and turn right to return to the nearby car park (S/E).

Hello, I was the only hiker out on this sweltering day, hoping to cool off at the waterfall… which had run dry! The ford was nothing more than a few puddles. Bad luck: I’ll do this hike again on a cooler day after a few showers.
A lovely walk in the forest, well described, with an elevation gain suitable for less experienced walkers like me.
Thank you

A circular route, with a fairly steep climb on the way there. But the scenery is absolutely magical, with moss-covered trees, giant’s kettles and a waterfall. A must-see in the region.

A lovely, short and easy walk through the cool forest. Unfortunately, the drought had dried up the waterfall, so there was no mist to see… and the river was completely dry, which meant we could walk right through its bed and into the potholes.
Very impressive and lovely.
I recommend it.

The signposting is a bit patchy at the start. It would be worth suggesting an alternative route via the viewpoint overlooking Lake Nantua, which only adds about 35 minutes to the walk.
