Description of the walk

Park in the free car park at Gamla Uppsala.

(S/E) Stand with your back to the main road, walk past the toilets and continue until you are facing the first burial mound. Go round it on the right until you reach the church.

(1) Walk round the church and then return to the path. Take the first left and head back towards the burial mounds.

(2) Continue until you cross a small wood.

(3) As you leave the woods, turn left to head back towards the burial mounds.

(4) Back near the burial mounds, a short detour to the left offers a lovely view of Uppsala Cathedral and Castle. Head back down and continue along the path. Then, at the three-way junction, turn right to quickly reach the car park (S/E).

The Gamla Uppsala Museum (check the website for prices and opening hours), located near the burial mounds, is open daily during the season and provides a great complement to your visit to the site, whilst the small, more local Sockenmuseum has variable opening hours, which should be checked on site.
