Description of the route

(S/E) Start from the forecourt of Saint-Julien Church.
Follow the Route de Saint-Sauveur for 100m and turn right onto Rue du Guichet. At the junction, turn left and after about 300m, take the path on the left for approximately 1,300m.

(1) Take the path on the right which leads to a small track; follow this to the right until you reach the junction with the D3 road. Take the road opposite.

(2) Turn slightly right and then immediately left. This avoids going through the hamlet of Colangette.

(3) At the Carouge crossroads, take the dirt track straight ahead for about 1,400 metres, ignoring any turn-offs to the right or left. At the crossroads, turn right and join the D4 road.

(4) Once you reach this road, turn right for 50m, then take the path on the left uphill to reach a large bend on a tarmac road; turn right and continue along this road. At the next junction, take the road on the right for 100m and then the dirt track on the left, following it past the Puits des Champs.

(5) Continue to the next tarmac road. Turn left onto this road and enter the village of Grangette.

(6) At the four-way junction, turn right towards Pesselières, leaving this road at the next large bend to turn right onto the dirt track.
This track turns sharply to the right, then take the next left, which leads onto the D73.

(7) Cross this road and take the path on the right through the woods. From this point onwards, many tracks are marked on the ground.
Refer to the practical information and the mountain bike signposting. Head south-west, leaving the quarries on your left as you follow the wooded strip.

(8) Turn sharply left and continue straight on. At the top of a climb, you’ll reach a right-hand bend; continue for about 200 m. Turn left twice in succession and, after crossing the ditch, continue keeping the houses on your left at the end. After a sharp right-hand bend, you’ll reach the old Roman road.

(9) Take it on the left.

(10) At the junction, turn 90° to the right and follow the edge of the Bois du Roichat until you reach the next road. At the tarmac road, turn right and continue for about 800 m.

(11) Take the path on the left, then after 150m turn right; stay on this path until the next road to cross (D3). Walk 200m, turn right, cross the road again, and go down the path leading to the Moulery spring.

(12) Go back up to the road, cross it and take the dirt track.
From this path, there is a lovely view of the hamlet of Moulery. Turn right once, then left once, then right twice to reach the Gémigny wash house.

(13) Continue, keeping to the left, to the Boutaut spring.

(14) Turn back, cross Gémigny via Rue des Cours, then turn left onto Rue des Lavoirs and follow it to the Panny spring.

(15) Head north-west up the road. At the first junction, turn right, then immediately afterwards, turn left onto the path. At the next junction, turn right and, at the top of the hill, turn right to join the D73 road.

(16) Cross this road, then take the path opposite; leave this at the next junction to turn left, and immediately take the path on the right which leads to the village of La Forêt.

(17) Take the road on the right (D211) as far as the reservoirs (on the left). Take the dirt track heading south-east. At the bottom of the descent, turn left to reach the D73.

(18) Cross this road; the Saint-Julien wash house is on the right. Continue south-east to reach the church forecourt (S/E).

Notes

This ride requires strict adherence to the Highway Code.

Between points (7) and (8), you are on the Chaume de Thury and within the protected area of former limestone quarries. This area is dangerous for anyone who does not dismount. Crossing certain paths requires caution for both children and adults!

The entire route can be completed in both summer and winter; all essential mountain biking equipment is mandatory, including water; the springs are not drinkable.
This route is signposted with signs attached to wooden posts or existing structures (telephone, electricity poles, etc.) and occasionally on the ground in open areas. The number 9 accompanies the signposting.
Please note: this path follows the same route as a footpath running in the opposite direction.

Thank you for pointing out these difficult sections. Despite the fact that we were on the lookout for them on the circuits, we had missed them.
Everything is back in order.
Well done and thank you to the volunteers who maintain all the trails in this region and to all of you who use them.

Thank you Amandine for this glowing comment, as well as the others you've covered and commented on. Among the other mountain bike routes, there's this one as a return trip.

It's a very nice walk, with some nice climbs (but also some nice descents!) and sections that are a bit difficult to get to, but which should clear up quickly! The scenery is quite varied, but I didn't find the wash-houses very interesting. What's more, the route is very well signposted (posts, ground markings)!
The church at Thury is very interesting to visit on the way back!

We did this route on Monday by mountain bike. Without a map or description, we just relied on the signs on the ground, which were very good.
It's a good idea to have signposted this route for both mountain bikers and walkers.
The route has little shade, so should be avoided in very hot weather.
Some parts are really excellent by bike, particularly in the Thury woods.
The route should also be pleasant in winter. Thanks for the walk. I'd recommend it.
