Description of the walk

Start from Verneuil-l'Étang station (Transilien line P)

(S) With your back to the station, turn right, walk past the car parks then head up Rue Pasteur to the left for about 400 m.

(1) Turn left onto Rue Édouard Vaillant following the PR® sign, with a field on your right.

(2) At the stop sign, cross the road and head straight ahead onto Chemin des Cantines. Pass through a retail area and arrive at fields and woodland. Continue for a further 500 m or so, then take Chemin de Paris on the left.

(3) Cross the D1036 via the bridge and enter the woods. Pass under the railway bridge.

(4) Turn left onto the path, following the railway line, then turn right and walk alongside the N36 for 50 m before taking a path that branches off to the right.

(5) At the next crossroads, turn right into the Bois de Vitry, following the PR® sign.

(6) At a bridge, turn right and then left at the next one. Cross the Yerres via a tributary and emerge onto Rue du Clos Pottier.

(7) Take Rue Jude de Cresne on the left and pass the Ozouer-le-Voulgis post office.

(8) Just before the left-hand bend, turn right onto Rue de la Mairie, pass a car park on the left, with a view of the church in the distance, and arrive at the square on Rue de la République.

(9) Turn right and pass the Church of Saint-Martin, which is on the right. Continue straight on, pass a pony club and then continue along Rue de Jamard.

(10) Cross the level crossing, continue straight ahead and ignore the path branching off to the right. Cross the fields then the River Marsange and continue straight ahead.

(11) At the crossroads between the fields and woods, continue straight on to La Goularderie and join the D32.

(12) Take the path to the right of the gate, walk for about a hundred metres and turn right. Leave the woods, join a cross-path and turn right. Walk past the Domaine de la Chalotterie, continue along the tarmac road, then turn left and you will soon reach the N36.

(13) Cross the road, head straight on along the D32 and enter Forest.

(14) At the Forest farm, continue straight on along the Grande Rue and enter Chaumes-en-Brie via the Chemin du Gué de Thiou.

(15) Continue straight on this road until you reach a fork.

(16) Continue straight ahead along the same path, which ends in a small track. Continue straight ahead along this grassy track. Cross two fords and come out onto a road with the PR® sign.

(17) Turn left onto a small path and come out onto a road. Turn left onto Rue de René Quinton, then right onto Rue de la Poterne.

(18) Continue straight on along Rue de l'Archelet, then at the end turn left and immediately right onto Rue du Cloitre. Cross a car park then turn left onto Rue du Président Carnot. Pass in front of Chaumes-en-Brie Town Hall then the Abbaye School Complex.

(19) Turn right onto Rue de Foix and take the next left, also onto Rue de Foix, then left again onto Boulevard Paula. Turn right onto Chemin de la Brèche des Vignes. Cross a stream and continue straight ahead.

(20) Turn right, follow this path for about 1 km, cross the Yerres and come to a road.

(21) Cross it, go straight ahead, enter the woods, then turn right. Pass between fields and, at the end of the woods, turn left. Go straight on between woods and fields and enter Verneuil-l'Étang.

(22) Head straight ahead along Rue Arthur Chaussy, then turn right onto Rue de la Gare (S/E).

Thanks, krando, for your feedback. It’s quite true that between points 12 and 13, you really do feel like you’re on your own there. I didn’t have any problems with my group, apart from a few vehicles. But it’s true, I can get round that by going via Château de la Chalotterie and rejoining the path at point 13. That’s sorted.
Enjoy your hike on Viso

I’d already played *https://www.visorando.com/randonnee-sur-*... which I really enjoyed, and I thought it would be nice to give this extended version a go.

And I must admit, I don’t know how to rate it.

It takes you through some brilliant spots, really lovely, but:
There’s this section between points 12 and 14 that completely ruined it for me. The D32 isn’t exactly busy (I must have passed 8 or 9 cars while I was on it), but it’s a wide country road with fresh tarmac (in fact, this route takes you along too much tarmac for my liking…), so, inevitably, the weekend drivers who think they’re racing drivers on a route are doing impossibly high speeds, which is really unpleasant (bearing in mind there’s no real way to walk on the hard shoulder). And the N36 is crossed directly at point 13 (unlike the bridge at point 3), and it’s really very dangerous: there are lots of cars coming at high speed, and there are no facilities for crossing on foot. Obviously, this is a subjective view, and perhaps others won’t be bothered by it.

In my view, this section really needs to be reworked. I think it’s possible, at point 12 (at the bend in the D32 at a place called La Goularderie), to take a path to the right of the gate, go about a hundred metres before turning right, follow the path for 500 metres to join the Chemin de La Chaloterie, pass in front of the Domaine de la Chalotterie, and finally reach point 13 on the D32, just before crossing the N36. I can’t see a simple way to avoid this junction. (Please note, I haven’t tested this option; it might not work).

EDIT: I have crossed out this section as the author of the walk, “randos Découverte”, has made the correction in their suggested route. Thanks to them, I think this could greatly improve at least this section (so I’m updating my review). The problem of the junction with the N36 remains, but I can’t see a solution to that. And I think that’s now the only real sticking point of the whole walk.

Also, right at the start, to avoid walking along the Chemin des Cantines / Route de Maurevert (which is quite busy, and where it’s difficult to walk on the hard shoulder once you’ve left the shopping area), I recommend following the route of the “Sur les pas de Couperin” walk: turn right immediately after leaving the shopping area (about 400 metres past point 2), walk up for about 500 metres to the next junction, turn left, and continue straight on until you rejoin the original route and reach point 3.

Apart from that: the ground is slightly damp in places, even a bit muddy, but there are no particular difficulties; the large wet patches in the forest at the start are easy to bypass (an alternative path is visible at the sides).

And finally, regarding @play75010’s comment: I didn’t see what he’s talking about regarding the paths that no longer exist. I didn’t encounter any difficulties; I was able to follow the route all the way through without any problems. The walk was created on 27 December 2025, which seems recent enough to me not to be suffering from this sort of problem yet (though I note that the walk was edited just after this comment, so the issues in question may have been corrected).

A lovely, varied walk through fields, woods and small villages, including the beautiful village of Forest.

Lots of horses and a magnificent peacock.

There are a few crossings of main roads. The first section runs alongside a main road for 5 minutes, which is never pleasant, but the rest of the walk is very enjoyable.

However, there have been quite a few changes since the person who created the route first walked it. Some paths no longer exist, and we had to cross the woods twice between stages 11 and 13. This caused quite a bit of confusion. But as we were with friends, it wasn’t a problem. Anyone planning to lead a group on this walk should do it beforehand to check the route thoroughly.

Please note, this is a hunting area, so be sure to contact the town hall beforehand to check whether there is a hunting permit in place on the day of the walk.
