Parking at the Nordic Site at the entrance to the hamlet of Granges Dessus, in the commune of Granges-Narboz. Mountain bike trail markers, yellow and blue, and no markers on the return leg.
(S/E) Head towards the hamlet and after house No. 4, at the fire hydrant, turn right onto the gravel path (mountain bike route 81). After 300 metres, the path forks; continue straight ahead. At the foot of a fir tree marked with a mountain bike sign, there is a triangular fork; continue straight ahead. Soon after, there is another fork; continue straight ahead (right-hand path). At the gravel path, turn left.
(1) Shortly after the metal pylons, you will reach a gravel road. Turn left and continue along the mountain bike route.
(2) Soon, in a small clearing, look for the small metal footbridge in the fence on the right to climb the hill diagonally to the right and rejoin a path. Go straight up, following the signs, and stay on this path. You will come to a small tarmac road, which you cross to reach a bench. Viewpoint over Mont d'Or and the end of Lac Saint-Point.
(3) Turn left onto the gravel mountain bike trail that passes in front of the bench. About 50 metres after the bench, don't miss the beautiful view of the lake on your right. At the fork (where you will find yellow and blue markings again), go up to the left. Soon after, at the nearby fork, continue climbing to the left. Very close by, at the next fork, climb again to the left, leaving the mountain bike route but staying on the yellow and blue markings. At the next fork, keep right, passing the municipal sign No. 10.
(5) You will reach a gravel road at a signpost marked "Les Doubs chemins" and turn right. At the next fork, turn right again. About 500 metres further on, look for the wooden signs on the right inviting you to descend to the right towards the viewpoint located 400 metres away.
(6) At another sign, leave the wide path and take a small path on the right. After a few steps, the path turns left and leads you to the unsecured viewpoint. Retrace your steps back to the wide path.
(6) Turn right again. The path is wide and well-marked at first. When it starts to climb slightly, you will come to a fork. Continue straight ahead, following the ledges. The path turns left, moving away from the ledges. When you see the car park, take the path on the left to avoid the ruts.
(7) At the car park (picnic table), turn right towards the second viewpoint of the castle between the trees, which could do with some pruning. Return to the car park and take the stony path on the left. A little further up (signs 26 and 29, hunting reserve), there is a marker post. Leave the gravel path and turn 90° to the right at the foot of the post (do not take the first path on the right). Continue along this path until it joins a gravel road at a T-junction and turn right.
(8) At the next junction (another T-junction), turn left downhill. You will enter some pastureland. The road becomes tarmac, but it is quiet, so continue straight ahead to the hamlet to return to the car park. (S/E)
The route includes cliff-edge paths and unsecured viewpoints.
