Departure from Pont des Chèvres, left bank of the Doubs. Yellow and blue markings
(S/E) Take Quai du Doubs and follow the river on your right. Leave the river for a moment and turn right at the roundabout into Impasse du Canal. Before the bridge, turn left into Rue de la Fontaine. Before it turns sharply to the left, leave it and continue along the path that runs alongside the river.
(1) At the next bridge (Pont Saint-Roch), cross the Doubs. At the end of the bridge, turn left and follow the river again, now on your left. Pass the swimming pool and gymnasium and join the old railway line.
(2) Follow the cycle path on the old railway line to the right. At the roundabout, continue straight ahead on the cycle path.
(3) At the next junction, leave the cycle path and turn right up Rue Saint-Loup. Cross the D437 road and ignore the turn-off to the right towards a house. At the fork immediately after, turn right (south-south-east) onto a path that runs alongside the woods for a while, roughly parallel to a power line. Then turn left onto this path and go up into the woods.
(4) At the T-junction, follow the path to the left, which immediately makes a sharp right turn. Ignore any paths branching off to the sides and, at the next T-junction, turn right (south-west) and ignore a path branching off to the right.
(5) When you leave the woods, you will come out onto a large pasture overlooking the town of Pontarlier, nestled at the foot of Larmont. Walk down through the pasture. At the end, go down the small steps. Then follow Rue de Château Chastaing to Pont des Chèvres (right bank). Cross the Doubs and return to the starting point (left bank) (S/E).
