Head towards the Col d'Ibardin
After leaving the D4 to take the Ibardin road (D404), pass the former customs house, now a bakery, continue to the first bend in the Ibardin road and park on the right-hand side of the road in a car park with around ten spaces.
(S/E) Go through a wooden gate (which you must close behind you) and take the stony path that starts at the back of the car park, perpendicular to the road.
This path (Mandobidea) is marked in yellow and has no branches until it reaches a crossroads with several other paths before a carriageway.
(1) Take this path to the left and follow it until you see the Col d'Ibardin ventas on your right.
(2) Turn left onto a path that descends steeply. Follow this winding path downhill, crossing several streams without getting your feet wet.
In rainy weather, this section of the route can become quite muddy, but you can walk on the side of the path, which remains passable.
After crossing the "Ibardingo Erreka", the path becomes passable again and climbs back up to the road.
(3) Cross the D404 and take the path that starts just opposite, ignoring theGR®10path that starts further to the right.
Follow this path to a pass offering beautiful views of the Basque and Landes coast.
(4) Turn slightly right onto the path that climbs north-east towards a promontory with a ruined sheepfold.
(5) Turn left onto a path that descends just after the sheepfold.
At the first crossroads, take the path opposite, then at the next crossroads, turn right and immediately left for a few dozen metres.
(6) Follow the path that descends to the right, ignoring the path that goes straight ahead as it does not lead to the valley.
At the next junction, turn left, then take the first path that branches off to the left horizontally at the top of a fern-covered area.
(7) Continue straight ahead on the path that runs alongside the pass road. You will come to a fence.
(8) Turn left and follow the barbed wire fence that runs along the top of the field. You will reach the D404.
Cross the road with the usual precautions as it is quite busy.
Take the path that runs alongside the road towards the car park, crossing a stream (S/E).
