To get to the Pierrys car park (start of the walk): In Billom, take the D997 towards Ambert. After 4 km, turn right at La Jonchère (after the restaurant) onto the D306 towards Les Pierrys. Drive through the village and park in the car park on the left next to the wash house.
(S/E) Leave the car park on the left.
- Sign 1: description of the route. Continue straight down to the village of Bouys, cross it, leaving the bridge on your left.
(1) Cross the river.
- Sign 2: Opposite the house and mill that belonged to Jean de la Nuit. Continue along the path, crossing the stream on a footbridge.
On the left, on the other side of the stream, you will see a small stone staircase. Continue to a second footbridge, keeping to the left of a picnic area.
- Sign 3: Opposite the meadow of La Ramade, where you will find the millstones of an old hemp mill and a routoir (a vat for retting hemp). Continue along the path, leaving the footbridge on your left. At the crossroads, turn left and follow the Madet.
- Sign 4: In front of the ruins of mills. Go down to see a complete millstone and its housing below. Continue along the path to some wooden steps leading down to the river. Continue along the path.
- Sign 5: At the foot of an ochre-coloured tower, do not continue at the foot of the tower, but turn left along the river where you can see the ruins of the Maquisards mill. Continue along the Madet.
- Sign 6: you are in front of the magnificent Romanesque Pirins bridge with a stone watercourse next to it that used to bring water to the Gardy mill a little further down.
(2) At the crossroads, go up the path to Les Loubatoux.
(3) Turn right, join the D307 and continue to the right. Continue along the first path on the right and you will reach the orientation table. From Puy de Mérailles, enjoy a beautiful view of the Dômes mountain range, the Sancy, the Billomois and the castles of Mauzun and Montmorin.
(4) Continue along the path, at the crossroads make a return trip to the edge of the Madet valley then join the D307. Follow this road to reach the car park (S/E).
