Le Revest - Tourris castle for experienced hikers

Not a very long hike with less than 11 km but very hilly with a rocky, steep incline.

Description of the walk

Park near the Revest dam. (S).

From the car park, walk along the lake leading to the Ragas channel (1) which is usually dry except after periods of heavy rain (see : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8zyj07K...).
Beware of slippery rocks which may be loose too.

Retrace your steps to take a newly opened PR (=small hiking trail) which heads uphill to the left to the Cierge ravine leading to Fierraquet quarry road (route de la carrière de Fieraquet). (2). Across the road, you can choose the Turcos path leading to the Cassini pyramid, but we like to walk along the road for about 2 km, going down towards Tourris. Please be careful on weekdays because truck traffic is significant.

After the truck weighing site, take the path on the right (3) which brings us back to the GR51.

(4) At the junction; the GR turns to the right (azimuth 245 °), then to the left after about 500m (5). The waymark to be followed indicates "Vieille Valette" (6), Tourris castle, to the right. It runs along the estate before getting to the castle (7).

The path you need to take is on the left (azimuth 190°) leading us to the pass near the high voltage power line poles (8). We take the slightly tricky path that goes down through the rocks to the right. The Aven, located on the right Altitude 350 m (9) is impressive by its depth. It could also be a resurgence unnamed on maps.

We continue downhill until we cross the Ripelle (10) (spring no longer visible).
Now go uphill again to take the path that goes towards the Touravelle and at the fork crossing, turn right.
The trail is no longer mentioned on recent maps but still exists.
Keep going between the buildings of the Touravelle (buildings purchased by the General Council) and take the path that resumes at the end of the property (11).
Once you at the first junction, turn right to return to the car park near the lake.

You must then take the path uphill leading to la Touravelle, at the junction take a right.

The GPS route doesn't correspond at all to the description.
We looked for our path many times without finding it.
We got lost many times before finally following our intuition and abandoning the route.

Obviously the route has changed since February 2016, when the reviews seemed more positive. It's been some time since I did it, but this loop shouldn't be a problem for an experienced hiker who is familiar with map reading. I'm sorry the walk caused you difficulties.

The GPS track is wrong and takes you off-piste.

On route 1, the return journey is pointless except for getting confused and taking routes via ropes and handrails to the bol and circé climbing routes...

On 2, the zigzags clearly show that you've lost your way: there's a path on the left marked yellow that leads to the same place and avoids the whole area of scree.

3 is an unpleasant roadside with lorries speeding past

4 to 6, a series of indirect paths, ditto - you've obviously been looking for your way, as there are much simpler and more direct ways of getting to the Domaine de Touris.

10/11 the GPS track indicated that of a wild boar ... Without a map and following your track, you head off-trail through the heath for several kilometres. Fortunately I already knew the area a little and I found another path.

12/ A idem your route indicates off-piste

You should review the GPS data before publishing this type of hike....

In short, a hike that could have been done in 2? hours ended up taking 4 hours because of a bad GPS track.

A beautiful hike.

It is rightly rated as difficult: the slopes are steep, both on the way up and on the way down!
But the views are beautiful over much of the route.

The GPS track is sometimes wrong, so we'd like a more detailed description.

It starts off really beautifully by the lake, and then the climb is nice too!

However, we then come to a main road. A bit boring, and then very little to see in the forest. Luckily there's still the cave (hole) too. The first part is fantastic, the rest a bit less so.

1) At point 7, turn left at 90 degrees towards the pylons.
2) At point 10, at the source of the Ripelle, go immediately right up the staircase path. Then follow the right main path, even if the tracks on the map diverge.

A short, pleasant hike that suits me just fine, as it will serve as the basis for a longer hike.

After leaving the Dardennes reservoir, we climbed up to "le chemin des Tourris" via the "Ravin du Cierge", taking only the first part of the circuit: from "le chemin des Tourris" to "la Pyramide de Cassini". We took the "chemin des Turcos" and, at the cistern, turned right as far as the "Pyramide de Cassini". We then took another path, due east, down to the "chemin des Tourris". This path is not shown on the IGN map. In fact, we suggested this complete circuit to the "Moderators", starting from the lake.
The view from the Pyramide is magnificent. The "stone glacier" is unusual.

Hello,
We only took the first part of the route: from the Dardennes reservoir to the "chemin des Tourris" road. Then I used the "Tourris and the Cassini Pyramid" route and took the "chemin des Toucos" to get to the Cassini Pyramid. From there we took another path, which doesn't appear on the IGN map. And on the way back we took the descent of the "Ravin du Cierge". I have suggested this complete circuit to the Moderators.
This part is very hilly, but magnificent.

When we did, we met the person who looks after the estate and there was no problem.
He agreed that we could picnic on the side, as we were coming with a larger group, but we preferred to have lunch on the old Valletta.
That was a year ago, but things may have changed since then.

I know from experience that the passage up a wide path between point 7 (Château de Tourris) and point 8 (between the bottom of Vieille Valette and the foot of the pylons) is expressly forbidden by the owner of the estate. He demands that hikers keep to the municipal path.
