Start: Grand Place, Le Rœulx.
(S/E) Opposite the Town Hall, turn right onto Faubourg de Binche.
(1). Continue straight on to the end of the street. At the junction, turn right onto Rue de Savoie. Go under the motorway bridge and take the first street on the left, Pavé du Rœulx.
(2) At the roundabout, take the third exit on the left. Follow signs for “Ravel1 – Houdeng”. Take the second path on the right, following the sign for “Ravel 1 Houdent”. At the end of the path, take the “Ravel1 – Strépy Thieu” trail, which starts to the left of the barrier. Follow the fence until you reach the towpath, then turn left.
(3) Cross over a roundabout, following the canal bridge.
After the canal bridge (50 metres further on), turn left onto the Ravel path which descends the slope from the canal bridge. Continue along the path on the right (Ravel) which leads down towards the Chaussée du Pont du Sart.
(4) Turn left onto the Chaussée du Pont du Sart. Take care when crossing the road. At the junction with traffic lights, turn right onto Rue Joseph II. Continue straight on along this road until you reach the canal bridge.
(5) Just before the canal bridge, take the small path on the right which overlooks the towpath. Be careful as the path is narrow. At the end of the path, turn right onto the track which runs alongside and descends towards the canal.
(6) When you reach lift No. 2, take the path on the right.
(7) At the end of the towpath, just before lift No. 3, turn right onto Rue Beau Séjour and head down towards the canal. When you reach the canal bank, turn right onto the towpath and continue along it. Pass under the motorway bridge and then walk alongside the Strépy-Bracquegnies drawbridge.
(8) At the drawbridge, turn right onto Rue Jules André and continue along this road until you reach the T-junction with Rue Raymond Cordier.
(9) At the T-junction, turn left onto Rue Raymond Cordier. Just before the bridge, continue along the path on the right. At the Y-junction just before the barrier, turn left onto the path leading down towards the new canal.
(10) At the Y-junction, turn left onto the towpath. You can stop here to visit the boat lift. Continue along the towpath.
(11) Walk past Thieu Lift No. 4. At the Y-junction, turn left onto Rue Saint-Géry and continue straight ahead along this street.
(12) Before the drawbridge, turn right onto the towpath. Where the canal narrows, carry on straight ahead. When you reach the drawbridge, carry on straight ahead.
(13) Cross the road and head straight on along the towpath. You can also take the small path to the right of the bend to go directly up to the George Price footbridge. Take the first path on the right (just after a large tree) to join the towpath of the new canal.
At the T-junction before the footbridge, turn right onto the small path leading down towards the footbridge, then take the path leading up to the George Price Footbridge. Cross the George Price Footbridge.
(14) George Price Memorial. At the end of the path, turn left onto the Sentier des Près. At the junction, turn left onto Rue du Coron towards the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the first exit on the right onto Rue des Enhauts (towards the Chapelle de Creuse) and continue straight on along the Sentier du Chien towards the motorway bridge.
(15) Just after the motorway bridge, turn right onto the hairpin bend to walk alongside the motorway
The path on the left leads to the Chapelle de Creuse.
(16) At the T-junction, turn right onto Rue de la Ville and carry on straight ahead along this street.
(17) At the T-junction, turn right onto Rue de la Place and continue straight on along this street.
(18) You’ll arrive at Place de Gottignies. At the junction, turn right onto Rue du Mont Coupé and follow it, ignoring the side roads on either side.
(19) On your right are the Étangs de la Payelle. Carry on straight ahead.
(20) On your left is the Sainte-Anne Chapel. Continue slightly to the right onto Rue de la Renardise. Pass the Étangs de la Renardise on your right and carry on to the next junction.
(21) Turn right onto Rue de la Renardise and pass the Chapel of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows on your left. At the junction with Chaussée de Mons, carry straight on along Rue de l’Hôtel de Ville and head for the Grand’Place (S/E).
