The starting point is at the exit of the small village of Boutavant (municipality of Vescles).
The route is clearly marked.
The route is very well marked in yellow.
(S/E) Immediately after leaving the car park, take the tarmac road heading west.
Follow it straight ahead to climb up to the crest of a north-south facing mountain. The slope is steep in places but it's easy to walk on.
Halfway up this climb, go through a chicane designed to make it easier for walkers to pass.
(1) When you reach the ridge, turn left and head south along a well-marked path.
(2) There are several panoramic views on the right (Anchay, Valouse valley) and on the left (Vescles, Chancia) as well as the Haut Jura. Then descend through a boxwood forest and join a white path.
(3) Follow it south to a pine forest.
(4) Turn left just after a pine forest. Go straight up or almost straight up.
(5) Turn right, then left (the white path on the right goes up to the relay station and is of no interest). At this point, you will see the sign for Pic d'Oliferne.
(6) Follow the east wall of the castle enclosure on your right, which will take you to its base. Development work is still ongoing, especially during the summer months.
You will be rewarded with a magnificent 360° panoramic view of the southernmost part of the castle. Return to point 5.
(7) Complete the loop and return to the starting point heading north along the path, which is now mostly paved (S/E).
