Park near the school and temple in the village of Montécheroux.
(S/E) Join the Grande Rue and continue straight ahead to go up the Ruotte.
At the roundabout, continue along Rue des Raichênes and follow the farm track.
At the first fork, ignore the signpost on the right and continue straight ahead to the edge of the forest. Enter the forest and you will soon come to a crossroads of forest paths.
(1) Take the left-hand path. Walk through the Bois de la Tillenaie forest until you reach another crossroads.
(2) Continue along the logging track on the left, marked with blue signs, to reach a small shoulder. Follow the ridge to its terminal promontory, Le Gueutcha.
(3) Turn back to the forest road.
(2) Take it to the left. Make a wide turn to the left and then return to a large crossroads.
(4) Take the forest track on the left which leads to the Batterie des Saussis, where there is also a high-voltage pylon.
Retrace your steps back to the crossroads.
(4) Take the middle forest path (marked). You will soon reach the highest point of the route, marked on a tree. Mont Écheroux, which is not very distinctive, is about twenty metres from the pass.
(5) Take the path again, between the old forest and recent plantations, until you reach a pasture that soon becomes a fir forest, and cross it. You will reach the small monument at Lomont
(6) Continue eastwards, passing in front of the Abram farm.
After the farm, walk along the pasture fences to the pine forest.
(7) Continue along the path until you reach the D121 road.
(8) Turn right onto it for about ten metres, then at the car park, re-enter the forest by taking the path on the right.
Follow it downhill to a three-way junction. Continue on the left path to reach the first houses in the village.
(9) Go down Rue du Chêne to the town hall/school building marked by a bell tower.
Take the stairs to the right of the building, cross the courtyard of the old school and then descend to the drinking trough.
Cross Grande Rue and take the alley opposite the pond to return to the car park where you started (S/E), Rue de la Pâle.
