Description of the walk

Parking: Rue du Vieux Pavé d'Asquempont.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the towpath to the right towards the north-north-east for 4.75 km, passing the port, the lock and the industrial estate.

(1) Take the pedestrian crossing on the bridge to cross the canal, then walk along it in the opposite direction to the lock for 3.5 km.

(2) Move closer to the lock to get a better view of the facilities (without going past the barriers running alongside the lock chamber).

(2) Then continue along the path for 800 m.

(3) At the junction, turn right towards the lake and walk along it (on either side) for just over 1 km, until you reach the far end. Go straight on to return to the canal.

(4) Turn right twice towards the bridge. Cross it and return to the car park, which you will reach after about 350 m (S/E).

Worth a visit

  • The Ittre lock.
  • Ittre harbour.
  • Nearby: the Ronquières inclined plane.

Hello,
I’ve done this walk; I found it peaceful, serene and clean, and the people were friendly.
The lock is well worth a visit.
Easy to park.
It’s a shame there isn’t a café or terrace along the route.
In any case, thank you for your efforts.
