Starts from Mer station, accessible by TER on the line between Tours and Les Aubrais or Orléans.
‘Vélo’ signage is present at major junctions.
(S/E) With your back to the station, head straight along Avenue du Maréchal Maunoury, taking the clearly marked cycle path on the right-hand side of the pavement.
(1) At the roundabout, cross the D2152, continue straight on towards the gendarmerie and immediately ignore a road on the right.
(2) Go round the next roundabout to the right and take the second exit towards the ‘Loire à vélo’ cycle route.
(3) At the roundabout shortly afterwards, cross the D112 and turn right onto the cycle path running parallel to it.
(4) Shortly afterwards, turn left towards Blois. Continue straight on along the D112, which is on your right.
(5) Cross the D112 carefully and immediately turn left towards Muides to take the bridge over the Loire on the cycle path on your right-hand side.
(6) On the other side, turn right onto Avenue de la Loire and enter Muides-sur-Loire.
(7) When you reach the church, turn left.
(8) Take the second right onto Rue du Tramway.
(9) At the Stop sign, turn right and follow the cycle path running alongside the D951.
(10) After about 750 m, turn right into Rue de Colliers.
(11) Take the first left onto Rue des Chênes.
(12) At the end, turn right and then immediately left as the road curves.
(13) After a left-hand bend, rejoin the D951 and follow it along the cycle path running parallel to it.
(14) Take the first right, Rue de Bel-Air, and continue down to the Quai de Loire.
(15) Follow it to the left, with the river on your right.
(16) Turn right, go through a metal barrier and join a cycle path. Cycle along this path for a long stretch, enjoying several views of the Loire.
(17) Ignore a small road on the left and carry on straight ahead along the cycle path.
(18) Ignore a signposted path branching off to the right, turn left onto the cycle path and you’ll arrive near the D951.
(19) Turn right and stay on the cycle path. Cycle along this path for a long while; unfortunately, the Loire is often hidden by foliage. You’ll reach a junction with a swimming pool on the right.
Between (20) and (25), the cycle path is closed due to roadworks (as of September 2026) and you’ll need to take a diversion. Follow the ‘Vélo’ signs carefully.
(20) Turn left and cross a bridge over a stream. At the T-junction, turn right and then left.
(21) At the Stop sign, cross the D951 with care and continue straight ahead onto a small road which soon turns left (view of a viaduct opposite).
(22) At the junction, turn right.
(23) At the Stop sign, follow cycle route no. 9 to the right towards Blois (ignore the cycle signpost opposite also pointing towards Blois, as this takes a longer route).
(24) At the ‘Give Way’ sign, turn right onto the D72. Follow this busy road carefully until you reach a roundabout.
(25) Join a cycle path and follow it round the roundabout on the right. Cross the D951, turn left towards Blois and pass under a road bridge.
(26) Stay on the cycle path running parallel to the D951.
(27) Follow Quai Amédée Constant until you reach the Pont Jacques Gabriel.
(28) Turn right to cross the Loire via this humpback bridge.
(29) On the other side, keep right and follow the cycle path running parallel to Rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny.
(30) At the Stop sign, carry on straight ahead.
(31) Pass under a road bridge and leave Blois.
(32) About 500 m further on, turn left.
(33) At the next junction (fountain), turn right, and do the same at the following junction.
(34) Join the cycle path again at the Observatoire de la Loire and follow it to the left, keeping the river on your right.
(35) At a junction a little further on, carry straight on: the tarmac gives way to a gravel track.
(36) Ignore a road on the left, pass a large gate on the left and carry on straight ahead along the hard-packed track. Ride along the left-hand side of the wall of the Château de Menars park.
(37) At the fork in the road, keep to the right and rejoin the tarmac cycle path.
(38) Pass by the foot of the church and the Château de Cour-sur-Loire and carry on straight ahead. Further on, turn left, immediately ignore a turn-off on the right and head uphill to the next junction.
(39) Turn right towards Beaugency and follow Rue de la Mairie uphill. At the junction shortly afterwards, go straight on and head back downhill.
(40) Take the first right, towards Muides.
(41) Ignore a turn-off on the right, turn left onto the small road and walk up a short hill. Continue straight on along the flat road.
(42) Ignore a turn-off on the left and carry on straight on towards Muides. This will take you back to the bridge you crossed at the start of the walk.
(5) Cross the D112 carefully, then turn left onto the cycle path running parallel to it.
(4) Turn right.
(3) Go round the roundabout on the right.
(2) Go round the next roundabout on the right as well.
(1) Cross the D2152 and follow Avenue du Maréchal Maunoury up to Mer station (S/E).
