Along the West coast and a small lake

Start: Car park off Haast Highway at Ship Creek Beach

(S/E) From the car park, reach the tower and viewpoint, then take the path toward the beach. Follow this path, keeping the ocean on your right. The path is well-maintained and laid out in sections with boardwalks.

(1) At the junction, continue to the right. A little further on, you can access the beach, however, return the same way back. Continue along the path and enjoy the viewpoint on the right. Follow the path back down to reach a small lake.

(2) The lake marks the end of this small loop, follow the obvious, well-maintained path, this time through forest or low vegetation, to reach the junction at waypoint (1) and return to the starting point by the same route (S/E).

Note : The tower and viewpoint is freely accessible, so climb up to it before or after your hike to get an overall view.

Gears: There is a strong possibility of sandflies, so be sure to bring some insect repellent.

Facilities: Toilets at the start.
